Ms Rena Dourou also stressed the need for reliable answers at European, national and local level, responding to the expectations of citizens, particularly of young people, “especially in these critical times in which we are observing the resurgence of populism and extremism”. “In order to avoid the risk that our fight for decentralisation might strengthen the voices of extremism and radicalism”, Ms Rena Dourou emphasized. “For, we can only address populism and right-wing extremism through acts” stated the Regional Governor of Attica.
Finally, the Regional Governor of Attica, in her intervention in the Plenary Session of the Congress on the issues of tackling corruption in public procurement, observed that “it is a major challenge, yet its success relies on direct citizen involvement - rather than just on the involvement of some officials or public officers”. “The future of Europe depends on this, especially today that voices of intolerance thrive due to the absence of transparency and the lack of effectiveness in tackling corruption,” underlined the Regional Governor of Attica.
