G. Patoulis: Greek Local Government and Attica Region take leading role in the heart of Europe. My heartfelt congratulations to friend and colleague A. Tzitzikostas for his great success in the Presidency of the European Committee of the Regions

Mr George Patoulis, the Regional Governor of Attica and Vice-President of the Association of Greek Regions (ENPE),has acquired two important positions in the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) for the 2020-2025 period. Mr Patoulis has been elected Vice-President of the CoR and Head of the Greek Delegation to the CoR.

It is the first time that Greece gains such a dynamic presence and a leading role in the European Committee of the Regions.Mr Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the Greek Regional Governor of Central Macedonia and President of the Association of Greek Regions (ENPE), has been elected President of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR).

In his remarks, Attica Governor G. Patoulis shortly after the plenary session of the European Committee of the Regions noted:

“I would like to thank all my colleagues who honoured me with their vote and gave me the opportunity to hold such honourable positions in this important European institution.

I would also like to congratulate my colleague and friend, the Regional Governor of Central Macedonia and President of the Association of Greek Regions, MrApostolos Tzitzikostas, for his historic election as President of the European Committee of the Regions, being the first Greek elected in such a position in the 26 years since the establishment of the CoR.

Our election justifies the efforts of the Regional and Local Government of Greece, honours our country and our everyday struggles to fortify the local communities to play a leading role in the development prospects of Greece.

At this critical juncture, local communities across Europe should engage to create a common framework of policies and a unified strategy for expanding the development prospects of European cities.

I am deeply convinced that only by joining our forces we can achieve this aim.  Working together with the intention of synergy through this very important institution, we will aim to ensure that all European citizens have equal opportunities in order to improve their quality of life.

It is our primary goal to support the strengthening a European alliance, with the local government playing the leading role.

The Region of Attica will play a leading role, both in expanding relations and cooperation between European authorities and in pursuing the goal of finally implementing the necessary reforms in Greek Local Government with a focus on decentralizing resources and responsibilities. I am personally committed to working with all my strength in this direction.”
