Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious transboundary animal disease (TAD) affecting cattle, sheep, goats and pigs.

Recent outbreaks highlight the need for strict biosecurity measures.
Further spread of the disease would have serious consequences for animal health, livestock production and the national economy
.

❗ IMPORTANT: FMD is NOT a risk to human health, but it is a major transboundary animal disease (TAD) with serious impact on livestock populations.

If you are travelling from a country or area with confirmed cases of Foot-and-Mouth Disease, you can help:

  • Declare all food items you are carrying
  • Do not bring meat, cured meat products, cheese or dairy products from abroad
  • Leave on the ship or airplane any food purchased abroad during your trip
  • Clean and disinfect shoes and equipment such as luggage, tools, camping or hiking equipment that may have come into contact with soil
  • Avoid contact with livestock for 5 days after entering Greece
  • If you are returning from a country where foot-and-mouth disease occurs, avoid contact with livestock for 14 days
